Freeway Management System (FMS)
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Freeway Management System (FMS) is a real-time Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS) and was originally developed in 1993. This system
consists of numerous independent applications used to monitor traffic activity,
roadway and weather conditions across the state. The ITS data streams currently
include traffic counts, weather data, pavement conditions, signal timing,
Variable Message Sign (VMS) advisory messages, video signals, and the statewide
Highway Condition Reporting System (HCRS) events. Each has their own unique user
interface, security, output format and timetable.
Since the year 2000 OZ Engineering has successfully
implemented numerous projects for ADOT's FMS.
- Phases 3, 4, 5, and 7 of FMS: As part of these
projects more than 1000 devices were integrated into FMS.
